HAPPY TAILS ~ K9 Stray Rescue League

We adopted Finnegan (formerly “Retread”) from K-9 in April of 2008, and couldn’t have asked for a better furry friend to add to our family! My husband and I loved him the moment we saw him at the kennel, and we knew right then and there that he was the dog for us! He came to us knowing every command, (including “spin”, my kids’ favorite!), completely house-trained, and with such a gentle and loving personality! To this day (a year and a half later), we can honestly say that he’s never gotten into any mischief (that we know of…not even the garbage!), and is so well-behaved and trustworthy! He loves taking his walks every day, sleeping in my sons’ rooms at night, camping in the summer, catching snowballs in the winter, and has never met a tennis ball he doesn’t love! Life is good!  Our family loves Finnegan more than we can say and can’t imagine our home without him! We are as lucky that he “adopted” us, as he is that we adopted him! We truly believe that this shelter dog rescued our family and hope other families will find the same to be true when they open their hearts to rescue another lucky dog!
Here are some picture's of Rocky playing in the lake at my parents place up north. He seems to really love the water, it was difficult to keep him dry and he constantly tried to jump in. Our son was throwing pine cones in the lake and Rocky was jumping in and retrieving all that he could carry. We adopted him in January or February. He is such a good dog........especially with the kids. Our daughter absolutely loves him and climbs all over him when ever she can, he just
lays there and allows her to do her thing. The kids shortened (or lengthened) his name and call him Rockdog". We will take more pictures of him over the holiday weekend and send them when we can. We are truly blessed and lucky to have found your organization and to have found Rocky. He is part of the family as if we had him from a puppy and we believe he is happy with us. Thank you for what you do for dogs and for people looking for a dog.
Hi K-9: Just a long overdue update on the wonderful dog I adopted 2 years ago this month. I celebrate her “birthday”on June 23, 2007. Her former name was“Lacy” . I changed her name to “Mitzi II”, as I went thru hundreds of names till she responded. She is the most loving, even tempered, best natured and most intelligent dog I have ever had. The vet has determined she is Sheltie and Aussie Cattle Dog (as she was born tail-less). She has never growled or snapped at anyone and adores children. She is my shadow and follows me everywhere. She loves to go for rides and is an excellent passenger. I work and she is very good at home and has never messed or destroyed anything. She follows commands and is a joyful pooch.

We just wanted to let you know Tucker is doing fantastic. It was great to get a dog with such WONDERFUL manners. He’s unimpressed by my boys crazy antics. I was worried we’d be dealing with boys running around like maniacs and a barking dog. Hasn’t happened. He’s content to watch. But if we engage him in the activity he’s all Jack Russell. What fun! We are so happy.
To all my friends,  I’ve been meaning to get in touch with you but I’ve been so busy and didn’t get a chance … I’m sorry. But when Mom told me that my foster dad Mike called I knew it was time.  How do you like my new name? I love it ... it’s so manly. Mom talks funny and when she called me Rags it sounded more like Rex and Aunt Rhonda likes it too. Oh ... Aunt Rhonda is our next door neighbor --- you’ve met her – she was with Mom when she picked me.  I’ve been a real good dog, well most of the time. During my first week I got into lots of trouble and got time out just about every day. I’ve helped myself to bread, some cookies, door frame, door, etc …. you get the picture. Thank goodness time out never lasts long - Mom can’t stay mad at me since I give such good hugs and kisses.  Mom took me to PETCO and I got some treats and toys (squeaky ones) and then she took me to the Vet – yikes … got some shots but the lady there said I was a real good dog and the Vet told Mom that I’m very handsome – like I didn’t know.  I get to play in the back yard and we go on walks just about every night. I sleep right next to Mom’s bed and when she is asleep I sneak on the couch. I haven’t chased and squirrels or rabbits – Mom says it’s not nice … darn. I also get to go to school – Mom says I have selective hearing and at times I don’t listen so well. Mom wants me to tell you thanks for taking care of me so well. Gotta go – time for our walk.            Rex

Your instincts on Baxter were dead on.  He is a wonderful dog. There have been no accidents in the house to date.  No chewing except on his toys which are numerous. Would answer to his new name by day three. Also sits on command on by day three.  Lies down on command by day four. Fetches by day six.  Also swimming (as opposed to wading) in Paint Creek by day six. Beyond his general good disposition, he us a homer, in that when off the leash he stays (so far) close to home.
That Baxter is exceptional is proven by the fact that he can so easily be trained by an amateur such as myself. I couldn't be more delighted with my new companion and the feeling seems to be mutual.
He's been with me constantly since I picked him up. I take him with me to the office and he is the perfect gentlemen, never barking or jumping up on clients. No doubt a lot of this is attributable to you and your care for which I am very grateful.
Yesterday, our newest addition, Bandit, came in from outside and proceeded to make herself very comfortable on our bed for a nap. She likes to throw herself on top of all our pillows. We were able to get a quick picture (she is very camera shy) of her and recorded her snoring. I think she is adjusting very well to our home.

Sorry it has taken us awhile to get back to you. Porsche is a fantastic addition to our family. She barely notices our cat and our cat seem just fine with that. She has really adapted well to us! We love having her around, she is so much fun. She is real affectionate and just loves being by us and tends to want to be wherever we are around the house. Tugging on the rope seems to be one of her favorite things to do with us right now. She gets pumped for her life when we get home from work and hops around like a bunny :) We still sometimes crate her when we leave the house but she has done really well when we don't. I have a feeling that eventually we will not crate her at all.  This past Saturday we had a family pumpkin carving party and she was great with all the people at our house and even better with our niece and nephews. Our attached picture is from that event. We can't thank you enough for all your help and advice through the adoption process
Hello K9 Stray Rescue League!

We just wanted to send you a note to let you know how happy we are with the 2 dogs that we adopted from your shelter!!! We adopted “Layla” (and kept her name) on January 30, 2009 and adopted “Izzy” (we changed her name to “Lucy”) on May 22, 2009. Both dogs are the sweetest dogs, especially with our kids, and they get along with each other so well. They patrol our backyard together, play together, and “hang out” together every day. We have attached some pictures of the 2 of them, so you can see how well they get along. They both seem to be very happy here!! Thank you for saving these 2 precious dogs so we could have the chance to adopt them into our family!
Hello Everyone! We just LOVE Barley!! He is doing very well. It only took a couple of hours and our cat Franklin took right to him. This is the cat that usually always hides. :) The other cat, just kind of sits there and stares at him like he can't quite figure out what to do.......Barley has had a little cough, I noticed it when I broght him home and he drank some water, and he has woken up in the middle of the night with it a couple of times. It sounds like he is trying to clear his throat. It only lasts a short time, and we are going to the vet Wednesday so hopefully it's nothing. Other than that he has been the perfect addition to our family! We got him a crate, we put him in it when we had to go to work on Sunday and he did fine. Then today Ernie felt bad for locking him in a cage all day while we are at work, so he left the door to Barley's cage open. I got home at about 6 today. He was the perfect little angel!!! No messes, nothing. He was just curled up on my pillow fast asleep waiting for us to return home to him. I couldn't believe it!!  Thank you so much, and I will keep you updated. I'll send you more pictures of Halloween, Barley is going to be a pumpkin :) Thank you, and take care!
Riley (aka Hunter) loves his new home!!
Thanks so much! He's doing well... calming down quite a bit, and learningthe rules! Our 7 year old daughter insisted on naming him Riley. He and our other dog Bo (who we adopted from you guys 5 years ago) are getting along quite well, although Bo does let him know who's boss and Riley gets an insane enjoyment from teasing him! They both have been having lots of fun swimming in our river and running along beside us when we go 4-wheeling. Riley is loving having 4 acres to play on, although he'd rather be up by our house playing with the kids.
Joey was very sick when he came to K9 Stray. He is now healthy and living happily every after in his new home.
Hi there, we adopted Calvin on May 16th. We could not be happier! We love him! He was so well behaved in the car (50 minutes trip), and great at petsmart, where we had to shop for everything dog. At home, he just was the happiest dog! He knows basic commands, is housebroken, does not bark and does not beg at the table for food. He loves his crate and any place on the floor close to us. He walks well on the leach, and we have a 30foot leash to run with him in our backyard. He does have a hunting instinct, mostly for birds, though. It is cute, the way he stands there on 3 legs, one front leg lifted like in the perfect hunting pictures! (Terrier maybe?) We will start obedience training this Saturday - not that he needs it, but we want to make sure that the 4 of us speak the same language to him. Thanks for doing what you are doing! We are very sure that Calvin found us as we found him. He is a wonderful companion and we are sure that he is the perfect addition to our family. All the best and Thank you again!
These are some updated photos of "Autumn". She was adopted by my fiance and I in 2008 from K-9 Stray Rescue League and was wonderfully cared for in a foster home by Justine. Thank you so much for keeping her safe and taken care of! She is a WONDERFUL pet. I have never had a friendlier pup and she LOVES the be where the party is. Everyone is so very taken by her loving personality. She can "sit", "paw" , "lay down" and stay". She's getting better at coming when called and responds well to a little whistling. She LOVES other pets and plays nice. She just recently figured out that she can bark! And it is a full bark, nothing girly about it. She loves truck rides and going to visit grandma and grandpa. She's famous for getting the party all rustled up and then promptly plopping down in the middle of the room for a little R & R. She's grown so much but I think she just about done at just under 40 lbs. Thank you so much!

Gerde(now Daisy) sleeping comfortably in her new home....
As you may have noticed, we have decided to give Sassy a new name, Bella. She has been an absolute dream since we brought her home Thursday. She listens very well, is fully potty trained, and enjoys playing ball outside. She lays around the house and often comes up to Michele and I to be pet and cuddle up to us. We just wanted to take a minute to say thanks again for meeting us out there and helping us find Bella. We love her very much, and are very happy to have her in the home. Hope everything is well, and thanks again!!!!

We adopted Bernie, the leonberger, from you guys awhile back and wanted to send you some updated pictures of the baby boy! Hes doing great loves to play and run around our house. Not too into our cats but they're adjusting. Thanks for everything!

Magic (right) and her new sister.. Two peas in a pod!
Hi there...I'm just writing a quick letter of thanks and an update. I adopted Tommy (aka Cooper..the Shepherd mix, from you last week and he's been fitting in extremely well. He passed his vet exam with no problem except he needs a to put on a little more weight. He's already learned the rules of the house, it was easy to teach him because he's so eager to please everyone. Now we're working on crate training and getting used to car rides he gets car sick if the drive is longer than 20 minutes and learning his new name. He's so sweet and everyone who meets him falls in love with him. He loves to play with the neighbor's dog...and any other dog that comes near him.> I attached a picture of me and him on our way home from walking to the pet store. He picked out a bone and carried it all the way home in his mouth (2 miles!). I just wanted to thank you so much for being so helpful in picking out a dog and for pointing me towards Tommy...He's better than I could have asked for.

Gabby is so happy in her brand new car seat. She started out rough but now is living the life of a princess....
Goober is fitting in. He still has some "puppy"to him, but we are working on things. I had a surgery recently, so I don't get to my email often to get things done. He still works off his food pretty good, but he has definitely put on a few pounds. You can't feel his ribs so much. Everyone seems to love him as soon as they meet him, so I think we have a treasure here. I've attached a couple of pics.
Thanks for checking in! Tucson is doing well. We have not changed his name. Ironically we are moving to Arizona (I am actually here now) and my husband will be here at the end of the month. Obviously, it must be hard on the dog during this transition time (he is out of his normal routine), but he has been coping really well. I am going to bring him out to Arizona in a couple of weeks. He loves people, and loves other dogs. We couldn't have asked for a better pet, we love him! I am attaching a couple of recent photos! Malka
